- Full Description
-
This project aims to fill the gap of a lack of demonstrated models of electricity distribution franchising in India and lay the foundations for replicable, scalable and pro-poor models of franchising through a pilot franchise project in Andhra Pradesh. Its central strategy is an innovative institutional intervention that empowers local players/communities by creating an infrastructure management and service delivery entity that is local. It enables the local franchisee entity to bundle and facilitate other service delivery – such as financial, technical and other infrastructure services – along with electricity distribution, thus enabling the local poor to access electricity and other infrastructure services. The proposing partnership will include capacity building and technical and financial facilitation.
Funding: $48,485
Duration: One year
Results:
1) The number of households with regular electricity connection was increased.
2) There was improved energy efficiency in meter, billing and collection that led to customer satisfaction.
3) There was decreased energy consumption for the same end uses.
4) The project delivered other value added services for the villagers, such as earthing, Compact Flourescent Lamps (CFL), and water.
